When I told people I was traveling to Myanmar, nearly everyone gave me the same piece of advice: get off the beaten path! I can’t recall all those who suggested that but I owe a big debt of thanks to each and every one. Taking the advice to heart, I started my trip to Myanmar by crossing overland from Mae Sai in Thailand to Tachileik. Once the formalities were sorted at the border, we met a driver and guide prearranged to take us to Keng Tung.
