Message from the chairman
Welcome to Myanmar

Never has the time been more exciting and opportune to say ‘our doors are open’ and it is indeed my pleasure to urge and encourage tourists into the magical experience that is Myanmar.

The country is awash with change and buoyant growth. Amidst this optimism it gives me much satisfaction to introduce the 2011 Myanmar Travel Guide. Within its covers lies the hopes of thousands upon thousands involved in our burgeoning tourist sector and they portray the solid forward momentum tourism is experiencing in Myanmar.

This compendium is the most thorough gathering point we have for the industry and I wholeheartedly recommend it to you.

Tourist arrivals are up sharply and show the broadening of interaction within the international community towards Myanmar and The Guide snapshots the physical and social assets of this wonderfully diverse nation.

A longer-term tourism strategy has been the focus of much attention and various government and private groups have been working on ideas for Myanmar’s long-term tourism development.

Following the Myanmar New Year in April, our new democratic government put forward a vision, the central plank of which encompasses the establishement of the “Myanmar Tourism Federation’.

make concerted effort in order to facilitate the smooth travel of tourists and their ultimate satisfaction.

Tourism is one to the most important sectiors for the nation’s growth. It is a global industry though and to succeed we must compete effectively with and international outlook.

For us we need to promote awareness of the country as a destination and that means intimate cooperation between the private sector and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

The Myanmar Travel Guide is at the heart of that cooperation and through it we extend to all travelers our best wishes and welcome to magical and marvelous Myanmar – The Golden Land.
